You know, after you have lived through enough pain, there comes a point where the questions start changing.
At first, the questions are usually "Why?" Why did this happen? Why did it take so much out of me? Why did I have to fight so hard? These are real, honest, human questions. For a long time, those questions followed me through every chapter of my life: from the uncertainty of the courtroom to the quiet, lonely nights where I was still trying to find my footing.
There were seasons where I was so focused on surviving that I didn’t realize how much the experience was shaping me while I was living it. We often think of growth as something that happens when the sun is shining, but the deepest roots are grown in the dark. Eventually, the weight of the "why" began to lift, and the question shifted. It became something more powerful, more active, and more hopeful. It became: What do I do with what I lived through?
That shift is the heart of The B.O.L.D. and Unbreakable Experience. It’s the moment where we stop asking why the storm happened and start asking how we can use the debris to build something stronger. It is the transition from being a victim of circumstance to being the architect of a new future.
Reclaiming the Narrative: The Birth of B.O.L.D.
As the Founder and CEO of Bravely Overcoming Life’s Difficulties (B.O.L.D.), I’ve dedicated my life to helping individuals and organizations transform life's toughest challenges into stepping stones for lasting success. My mission is simple: to empower you to see that your history is not your handicap; it is your training ground.
In our first few episodes and articles, we walked through the breaking, the resilience, and the battle against fear. Today, we arrive at the framework that rose from those ashes. B.O.L.D. didn’t come from a textbook; it came from the trenches of my own life. It is the roadmap I used to make sense of a story that felt like it was falling apart, and it is the same roadmap we use today to help others thrive.

The B.O.L.D. Framework: Your Roadmap to Transformation
B.O.L.D. stands for Background, Obstacles, Lessons Learned, and Determination. This isn't just a catchy acronym: it's a journey rooted in psychological research and lived experience. It’s about understanding that what tried to break you doesn't get to define you. Together, as a community, we use this framework to rebuild with purpose.
B – Background: Reconnecting with Who You Are
Whether we realize it or not, background matters. None of us enter a difficult season empty-handed. We are shaped by family, culture, and previous wounds. Understanding your "B" is about looking at the soil you were planted in.
Drawing from Urie Bronfenbrenner’s Ecological Systems Theory, we know our development is shaped by layered environments: from our immediate family to the broader social structures we navigate. Dan McAdams’ Narrative Identity Theory tells us that we make sense of our lives through the stories we tell about ourselves. When we look back at our background, we aren't just looking for pain; we are looking for the original "you."
When I look at my own life: becoming a young mother, navigating military life, and the deep, abiding love for my children: I see the context that shaped the person who had to face the storm. I wasn't just a woman in a crisis; I was a woman with a foundation of love and responsibility that would eventually become my strength.
One of the most powerful questions I ask my clients in our coaching sessions is: Who were you before life hurt you? Underneath the survival mode is a person worth reconnecting with. Healing isn’t just about moving forward; it’s about remembering your inherent worth before the pain tried to rename you.

O – Obstacles: Understanding the Architecture of Stress
Obstacles are more than just the events themselves; they are how the experience presses on your identity. Based on the work of Richard Lazarus and Susan Folkman, stress is not just what happens to you, but how you perceive and cope with it. It is the gap between the challenge you face and the resources you believe you have.
For me, the obstacle wasn’t one moment: it was years of courtrooms, separation from my children, and emotional fatigue. These obstacles change the "emotional architecture" of your life. They can make you guarded, weary, or afraid to trust. But obstacles also reveal things: they reveal strength you didn't know you had and a faith that becomes deeper than emotion.
When you identify your obstacles clearly, you take away their power to haunt you in the dark. You see them for what they are: hurdles to be cleared, not walls that end the race.
L – Lessons Learned: Turning Scars into Wisdom
If we aren't careful, pain only leaves us with scars. But when we process that pain within a supportive tribe, it leaves us with wisdom. This is the "L" in B.O.L.D.: the conscious choice to extract value from the struggle.
Through the lens of David Kolb’s experiential learning and Jack Mezirow’s Transformative Learning Theory, we see that critical reflection can change our entire perspective. It is the process of "perspective transformation." I learned that resilience isn’t always graceful: sometimes it’s just showing up when you’re exhausted. I learned that real faith can survive hard questions.
Every scar tells a story of survival, but every lesson tells a story of triumph. What has your current season taught you about your voice, your worth, and your endurance? Embracing growth means taking those lessons and using them as the blueprint for your next chapter.

D – Determination: The Quiet Refusal to Disappear
Determination is deeper than motivation. Motivation is a feeling that comes and goes; determination is a commitment that stays. As Albert Bandura’s work on self-efficacy suggests, it’s the belief that you can still influence your future even in difficult circumstances.
Determination doesn't always look like a shout or a grand gesture. Sometimes, it’s the quiet decision to keep going: to keep working while grieving, to keep praying while waiting, to keep showing up for your children when you feel empty. It is the refusal to let the chapter end where the wound happened. It is the B.O.L.D. choice to say, "I am still here, and I am not done."
Unwritten Pages: A Declaration of Hope
You might have heard my single, "Unwritten Pages," or seen the music video. This concept is the thread running through the B.O.L.D. mission. It’s the anthem for anyone who has ever felt like their story was over because of a bad chapter.
It means that painful chapters are real, but they are not final. For years, my life felt consumed by survival. But eventually, prayer and gratitude built a new beginning. "Unwritten Pages" is my testimony in song: a declaration that what hurt me was not all there was to my life.
Are you ready to stop viewing yourself through the lens of what hurt you? Are you ready to see yourself through the lens of what is still being written? Your future is a blank page, and you hold the pen.
