The Mindset Shift That Helped Me Keep Going

by | Jul 22, 2026 | Blogs

Can I take you back to a moment?

Have you ever been in a season where nothing around you changed at first, but something deep inside shifted: and somehow, that changed everything? The bills were still due. The loss was still sitting heavy in your chest. The rejection still stung when you let yourself think about it. The burnout was still humming in your body. The door was still very much closed.

But somewhere deep down, the story you were telling yourself started to sound different.

Maybe the shift wasn’t "everything is fine": because let’s be real, everything wasn’t fine. Maybe it was simply: "I am not finished."

Maybe it wasn’t "this doesn’t hurt." Maybe it was: "This pain does not get to define the rest of my life."

Maybe it wasn’t "I know exactly what I’m doing." Maybe it was just: "I can take the next right step, even while I’m still figuring it out."

That is what we are diving into today on The BOLD and Unbreakable Experience. We’re exploring the mindset shift that helps you keep going when the weight of the world feels like too much. Because sometimes, what saves your life, your purpose, or your peace isn't a dramatic breakthrough or a giant announcement.

Sometimes, it’s just one new thought that walks into the room and interrupts the old narrative.

The Story Before the Shift: Background

Before we celebrate the breakthrough, we have to name the "before." At B.O.L.D., we use a specific framework to help you navigate these transitions. It starts with Background.

An abstract loop of thoughts breaking into a straight, determined path in purple and lime green.

A mindset shift usually happens because the old way of thinking simply cannot carry the weight of your current life anymore. You might have been carrying thoughts that sounded "responsible" or "protective." Thoughts like, "Just keep pushing," or "Don't expect too much," or even the spiritualized, "Just be strong."

While those thoughts might have helped you survive a previous season, they aren't the thoughts that will help you heal in this one. We often think we are reacting to what happened to us, but the truth is deeper: we are reacting to what we believe those events mean.

A rejection becomes "I am not wanted." A delay becomes "I am behind." A mistake becomes "I always mess things up."

But here is the BOLD truth: A familiar thought is not always a true thought. Just because you’ve been repeating it for years doesn’t mean it gets to lead your life forever.

Evidence vs. Truth: The Obstacle

The hardest part about mindset work is that the old story doesn't sound like a lie: it sounds like evidence.

A minimalist scale balancing 'Old Evidence' in purple against 'New Truth' in lime green.

Your brain pulls out the receipts. It replays the disappointments. It says, "See? This is exactly why you shouldn't try again." When you’re exhausted, that evidence feels incredibly convincing. Burnout makes a lie sound logical. Grief makes a lie sound permanent.

This is the Obstacle. To overcome it, we have to stop treating emotion as evidence. Mindset shift isn't about denying your pain; it's about refusing to let that pain be the only narrator of your future. You can say "I am tired" without saying "I am weak." You can say "I am starting over" without saying "I failed."

Are you ready to stop agreeing with a story that keeps you stuck? Our Transformational Life Coaching is designed to help you separate the data from the drama and start moving with intention again.

The Shift That Opens the Door: Lessons Learned

What does the actual shift look like? It rarely feels like a lightning bolt. Usually, it feels like a shaky whisper.

It’s the Lessons Learned through the fire. It’s the moment you practice a new thought even when your emotions haven't caught up yet. It’s choosing a sentence that is true enough to interrupt the despair and steady enough to help you take one step forward.

Maybe your new thought is:

  • "I can do hard things one step at a time."
  • "My worth did not leave when they did."
  • "Rest is not quitting."
  • "I am allowed to begin again."

Once the thinking changes, the actions follow. If you stop believing you are powerless, you might finally make that one phone call. If you stop believing you are a burden, you might finally ask for the help you deserve.

Mirror Talk: Challenging the Private Narrative

There is a moment we all have. It’s at the end of the day when the house is quiet, the laptop is closed, and you finally walk past the bathroom mirror.

A woman looking into a mirror with confidence and a soft magenta glow.

In that moment, you aren't the professional, the mother, or the one who always has it figured out. You are just you. And that mirror is often where the loudest lies are whispered.

Mirror Talk is about looking that woman straight in the eyes and refusing to call her finished. It’s saying: "I understand why you are tired. I understand why you are afraid. But pain does not get to write your ending."

Try this tonight: Look at your reflection and declare, "My thoughts will no longer be a prison. I am allowed to challenge the story that has been keeping me stuck." If your voice shakes, let it shake. That tremble is the sound of hope making room.

Determination: Keeping the Shift Alive

The final piece of our framework is Determination. Mindset work is a discipline, not a one-time announcement. Life will test you. The same disappointment will show up, or the same person will say something that tries to pull you back into the "old you."

Determination is getting up and choosing the new thought again on a morning when you don't feel like it. It’s building a support system that protects your peace. Whether it's through BOLD Coaching or reading about the journey of resilience in my book, Not Without My Children, you must feed the new environment you are growing.
