Have you ever felt like you were standing in the middle of a chapter you didn’t write?
Maybe it was a sudden loss, a difficult career shift, or a personal battle that left you feeling like the ground beneath your feet had shifted. We’ve all been there: moments where the weight of our circumstances feels too heavy to carry, and the path forward seems invisible.
For a long time, that was my reality. From the high-stakes pressure of military life to the gut-wrenching uncertainty of a courtroom battle for my children, I’ve navigated seasons where "survival" was the only goal on my to-do list. But through those fires, I discovered a truth that changed everything: Your hardest chapter doesn't have to be your final one. In fact, it is often the very foundation for your boldest comeback.
At Bravely Overcoming Life's Difficulties (B.O.L.D.), we believe that challenges are not dead ends; they are gateways. Today, I want to share the framework that helped me move from survival to success: a roadmap we call the B.O.L.D. Methodology.
Reclaiming the Pen: The B.O.L.D. and Unbreakable Experience
In our latest podcast series, The BOLD and Unbreakable Experience, we’ve been diving deep into the journey from struggle to strength. We talk about the breaking points, the resilience, and the quiet faith required to keep going.
But transformation requires more than just talking about the pain; it requires a strategy to process it. That is where the B.O.L.D. framework comes in. This isn’t just an acronym; it’s a journey rooted in psychological research and lived experience designed to help you transform difficulties into opportunities.

B – Background: Reconnecting With the Real You
The first step in any comeback is looking back: not to dwell on the past, but to remember who you were before life got loud.
None of us enter a difficult season empty-handed. We are shaped by our family, our culture, and our previous victories. One of the most powerful questions I ask my coaching clients is: Who were you before life hurt you?
Underneath the layers of "survival mode" is a person with inherent worth, unique gifts, and a purpose that hasn't changed just because your circumstances did. Reconnecting with your Background allows you to ground yourself in your true identity, rather than the identity the struggle tried to give you.
O – Obstacles: Understanding the Architecture of Stress
Obstacles are more than just "problems." They are the architectural forces that press against your identity. When we face years of emotional fatigue or separation from what we love, it changes how we view the world.
However, once you understand the nature of your obstacles, they lose their power to define you. Instead of seeing an obstacle as a wall, we learn to see it as a weight: and just like in the gym, weights are what build muscle. My own obstacles in the courtroom didn't just bring me to my knees; they built a resilience in me that I now use to empower others through consulting and leadership training.

L – Lessons Learned: Turning Scars into Wisdom
If we don't process our pain, it only leaves us with scars. But when we reflect on it through the lens of growth, those scars become wisdom.
Resilience isn't always graceful. Sometimes it’s messy, and sometimes it’s just showing up when you’re exhausted. The "L" in our framework is about critical reflection. Ask yourself:
- What has this season taught me about my voice?
- What has it revealed about my endurance?
- How has my faith evolved through the questions?
When you can articulate the Lessons Learned, you stop being a victim of your story and start becoming the authority of it.

D – Determination: The Quiet Refusal to Disappear
Finally, we arrive at Determination. This is deeper than simple motivation. Motivation is a feeling; determination is a decision.
It is the belief that you can still influence your future, even when you can't control your present. Determination is the refusal to let the chapter end where the wound happened. It’s the spirit behind my single, "Unwritten Pages," which serves as a declaration that there is so much more to your story than what you've survived so far.
Your Story is Still Being Written
As the CEO of B.O.L.D., I have seen hundreds of individuals and organizations take their hardest chapters and turn them into fuel for their future. I’ve seen mothers reclaim their peace, leaders reclaim their purpose, and teams build a culture of unbreakable resilience.
If you are ready to stop viewing yourself through the lens of what hurt you and start seeing yourself through the lens of what is still being written, we are here to walk with you.
